Dreaming is the subjective experience of imaginary images, sounds, voices, thoughts and sensations during sleep. Dreams can vary from normal and mundane, to surreal and bizarre, and can often drive creative thought or trigger inspiration. Our daily waking activities also have an effect on our dreams.

But why do we dream? What do dreams mean? And where do dreams come from? The answers to these questions are not so simple. In part, our dreams show us ideas, beliefs, and feelings of which we are not readily aware, expressed in a personalized vocabulary of visual metaphors. Things "known but unknown" are contained in the unconscious, and dreams are one of the main vehicles for the unconscious to express them. Dreams are therefore more like riddles than statements; they represent a world of imagery in which our darkest fears, deepest secrets, and most passionate fantasies become present to our own consciousness, offering clues to unconscious conflicts. Dreams ask us questions hoping we will search and find the answers within ourselves. Dreams aim to broaden our mind, to teach us what is beyond our comprehension.

Throughout history dreaming has been a source of creative inspiration, healing power, spiritual guidance, communal wisdom and the expansion of self-awareness. In addition to healing, dreams facilitate the growth and development of the personality. Dreams can be a map for the soul’s journey, unlocking hidden secrets and revealing new frontiers.
